In this video, I’ll guide you step by step on how to connect a Sunflx battery to an inverter to make sure the BMS communicates correctly.

Common Challenges in Inverter-Battery Communication

Many users face communication issues between inverters and batteries. Our clients also ask questions such as:

  • Can Sunflx batteries communicate with XX-brand inverters?
  • Can Sunflx inverters communicate with XX-brand batteries?

These inquiries typically stem from three root causes:

  1. Pin Definition Mismatches: Varying RS485 pin assignments across brands cause physical layer failures.
  2. Poor User manual Guidance: Some inverter or battery manufacture failed to give clear connection guidelines in their user manual.
  3. Compatibility Barriers: Some Brands tend to customized the RS485 or Protocol, limiting cross-brand Compatibility to ensure customer choose both inverter and battery from one brand.

So, what exactly to configure the BMS communication?

There are some basic ideas:

  • Same-brand solar inverter and battery. They are usually pre-set and enable plug-and-play functionality.
  • Cross-brand configurations require the following procedure:
    1. Verify matching RS485 pin definitions (A/B lines) at both inverter and battery terminals.
    2. Same BMS protocol, Need set battery BMS protocol to match inverter protocol.
    3. connect to right RS485 or CAN ports between solar inverter and battery.

Practical Examples Cases

Fact: Most Chinese battery brands support Pylon protocol (v3.5/v3.6), and most inverters are Pylon-compatible. Communication succeeds when pin definitions are correct.

Case 1: Same brand solar inverter and battery.

For example, Sunflx inverter and battery. They are pre-settled same pylon protocol and the same RS485 pin order. So just plug and play.

Case 2: Cross-Brand Configuration (Voltronic Inverter + Sunflx Battery) Procedure:

1.Select ” Voltronic Protocol” in Sunflx battery BMS settings.

2.Rewire cables: Voltronric shared RS485/CAN port uses non-standard pin order.

If you choose Voltronic protocol on inverter and battery, but the communication still fails, it is very likely that the protocol is updated, so you can Switch both inverter and battery to Pylon protocol and retry.

Summarize

That concludes our guide to lithium battery and solar inverter communication. Hope these insights benefit your practical work.
